Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) is a public university established by Presidential Regulation Number 124 of 2014 on 6 October 2014. As an institute of technology, ITERA gave priority to opening engineering study programs that develop the potential of Sumatra in particular, and of Indonesia and the world in general. On that basis, ITERA established the Informatics Study Program to develop this potential in the field of information technology.
The Informatics Study Program opened in 2013, the second year after ITERA began teaching, and was formally established in 2015 by Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Number 64/M/Kp/III/2015. As a new public university, ITERA was mentored directly by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), so the first cohort of students attended classes at the ITB campus.
The Informatics Study Program is now part of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, ITERA. The 2020 Curriculum has been evaluated and updated into the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) 2025 Curriculum, which applies to students admitted from 2025.
Milestones
2012 ITERA began teaching.
2013 The Informatics Study Program opened. The first cohort studied at the ITB campus, ITERA's mentoring university.
2014 Once the main campus building was completed, all Informatics classes moved to the ITERA campus. ITERA was formally established by Presidential Regulation Number 124 of 2014.
2015 The study program was formally established on 20 March 2015 by Ministerial Decree Number 64/M/Kp/III/2015.
2017 The study program received its first accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT).
2023 The Faculty of Industrial Technology was established in October 2023, and the Informatics Study Program became part of it.
2024 The study program was accredited "Baik Sekali" (Very Good) by the Independent Accreditation Agency for Informatics and Computing (LAM INFOKOM).
2025 The Outcome-Based Education 2025 Curriculum took effect for students admitted from 2025.
